Pirate Radio Charge

20th Jun 2001.

A Kingswinford man has been fined £1,000 for installing equipment for a pirate radio station.

Scott Davis, aged 29, of Kingswinford, admitted charges of possessing apparatus for wireless telegraphy knowing, or having reasonable cause to believe, another person intended to use it for illegal broadcasting.

He was also ordered to pay £350 costs at Dudley magistrates’ court yesterday.

The charges related to an illegal radio station called Groove FM, which broadcast across the Dudley area.

The court heard how aerials for the station were often erected in tower blocks and people had complained about the broadcasts.
